The Exclusions Under the Corona Kavach Health Insurance Plan

The Corona Kavach health insurance plan was introduced by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) in 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The plan provides coverage for medical expenses incurred due to COVID-19. A corona insurance coverage with an indemnity basis will pay for hospitalisation and other associated medical costs brought on by the pandemic. The Corona Kavach health insurance plan is designed to cover hospitalisation expenses incurred by policyholders for the treatment of COVID-19. However, like any other insurance plan, there are certain exclusions that are not covered under this policy. In this article, we will discuss the exclusions under this plan.

What is Corona Kavach Policy?

The Corona Kavach policy covers your essential health insurance requirements throughout the pandemic. The plan covers hospitalisation expenditures for COVID-19 therapy, including the hospital room, nursing charges, operation costs, specialist fees, and more. Depending on an individual’s or family’s demands, you may pick the appropriate amount for the coverage because the total covered goes from ₹50,000 to ₹5 lacks. This corona insurance also covers AYUSH (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) inpatient care therapy for COVID-19 if you prefer alternative medicine.

However, the policy also has exclusions like any other insurance policy. These exclusions are the circumstances or conditions under which the insurer is not liable to pay for the expenses incurred by the policyholder.

What Corona Kavach Policy Does Not Cover?

Let us take a closer look at the exclusions under this insurance plan:

Pre-existing Diseases

This insurance policy does not cover the expenses incurred due to the treatment of pre-existing diseases. This means that if the policyholder has any pre-existing condition and is diagnosed with COVID-19, the insurer will not cover the expenses incurred due to the treatment of the pre-existing disease.

Waiting Period

The insurance plan has a waiting period of 15 days. This means that if the policyholder is diagnosed with COVID-19 within the first 15 days of purchasing the policy, the insurer will not cover the expenses incurred due to the treatment of COVID-19.

Diagnostic Expenses

This policy only covers the expenses incurred for diagnostic purposes if the policyholder is hospitalised. This means that if the policyholder undergoes a COVID-19 test and it is negative, the insurer will not cover the expenses incurred for the test.

Unproven Treatments

This health insurance plan does not cover the costs paid for untested or experimental therapies. If the policyholder opts for a treatment not approved by the medical community, the insurer will not cover expenses.

Self-inflicted Injuries

The insurance coverage does not cover the expenses incurred due to self-inflicted injuries. This means that if the policyholder intentionally exposes themselves to COVID-19, the insurer will not cover the costs incurred due to the treatment of the virus.

Treatment Outside India

The COVID-19 treatment costs outside of India are not covered by insurance coverage. The insurer will not cover expenses if the policyholder travels abroad for treatment.

Non-allopathic Treatments

The Corona insurance does not cover the costs associated with non-allopathic therapies. The insurer will not cover expenses if the policyholder opts for Ayurvedic, Homeopathic, or any other non-allopathic treatment.

Nuclear, Biological, or Chemical Attacks

This policy does not cover the expenses incurred due to nuclear, biological, or chemical attacks. This means that if the policyholder is diagnosed with COVID-19 due to a nuclear, biological, or chemical attack, the insurer will not cover the expenses incurred due to the treatment of the virus.

The Corona Kavach health insurance plans offers comprehensive coverage for various medical expenses related to COVID-19. However, like any other insurance policy, the plan has its exclusions, which policyholders must be aware of to avoid any disputes with the insurer. Health insurance policies, such as niva bupa corona kavach, can significantly aid the protection of the money you have set aside to achieve your goals. It is crucial to choose insurance coverage after carefully evaluating your needs. To avoid problems while submitting claims, it is essential to thoroughly study the terms and conditions of any health insurance policy you want to purchase.
